QUESTION:

We recently purchased a 9-year-old paint horse that my husband uses for team roping. We also have a 20 yr old sorrel horse. The paint horse is extremely well mannered when he is tacked but without tack he has no barn manners. He dominates the feeders and the barn stalls. Any suggestions how to curb his dominance over the sorrel

ANSWER:

Hi Marcy,

Thanks for the question, and you must be aware of the fact that horses are herd animals and there are dominant and submissive personalities in all of them. If your paint is king of the hill, then that is just the way it is. He has established that role. There is not much you can do about it. Just make sure that the sorrel has his feed off to the side where he can get enough to eat.

Thanks…

Mark
