QUESTION:

I need advice on how to canter my horse, I’ve done everything my trainer told me to do, but I just cant sit still on my horse I’d always jump up and down on the saddle.

ANSWER:

Hi Sharen,

Try sitting the trot without stirrups for a while. This will strengthen your leg muscles and will make it easier to balance when you regain your stirrups. Also try sitting back a little more. Another exercise is to stand up in the stirrups and put all your weight on the ball of your foot. This will force you to ride more with your legs and less on your butt. When you sit down, keep the weight distributed evenly on your feet and your butt. See if all this stuff works and let me know how it is works out.

Thanks,

Mark
