QUESTION:

Conformation – what does a judge look for; my Q.H. always lifts one leg when he stands? Also, I have a 16.1 hands (great temperament) AQHA. The last trainer I had for my 12 yr old 4-H daughter said he’s too big for Western Pleasure, he’ll never be as slow as the other 15 hh horses. But he’s great – my daughter handles him well and he’s so willing!

ANSWER:

Hi Judi,

Your horse is resting his leg when stands in the class because he is lazy. As far as size of horse, it has nothing to do with anything. A good mover is what you need to be concerned with. A horse can be either 17 hands or 14 hands and still do the pleasure class if he is a good mover. A good mover is what it is all about.

Thanks…

Mark
